DCT Dean’s Research Team Award

The Future Built Environment Research Team received the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies Dean’s Research Team Award 2019.

Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies, AUT

The award

He received the award with his team members Amirhosein Ghaffarianhoseini and Nicola Naismith, in recognition of the Future Built Environment Research Team’s contribution to research in the Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies.

The team and its year

The award came in the year the team launched the Architectural Engineering Lab, ran the Built Futures showcase for World Green Building Week with the New Zealand Green Building Council, and reported early results of its neuroarchitecture research using EEG and fMRI. It was also the year of three doctoral completions under his supervision.

Research team awards recognise collective output: publications, funding, supervision and engagement that no single researcher produces alone. The team’s collaboration has continued across the years since, in joint publications, conference leadership and the founding of GDI.

Why team recognition matters

Universities reward individuals more readily than teams, yet most significant research is collaborative. Faculty team awards recognise that reality and the leadership it requires: sharing credit, building capacity in junior colleagues and students, and sustaining a common agenda across many projects. The Future Built Environment Research Team’s agenda, sustainable, healthy and intelligent buildings and cities, remains the core of the School’s research today.
