The milestone

Working with Springer Nature, GDI 2025 secured a five volume proceedings series indexed in Scopus, capturing the research presented at the conference’s first edition. He described it as a decisive step for the GDI community, reflecting the depth, quality and reach of the work presented, and securing a scholarly record that sits alongside international benchmarks.

Five volumes is an unusual outcome for a first edition. It reflects the more than 200 full papers the conference received and the decision to organise the work across GDI’s green, digital and intelligent themes rather than compress it into a single book.

Not a one-off gathering, but a genuine platform with momentum and purpose.

Why it matters

Publication with a major academic publisher, with Scopus indexing, is what gives a conference paper standing in research assessment and career progression, particularly for doctoral students and early career researchers. It also signals to future authors that GDI is a venue whose output will be visible and durable.

He presented the agreement as evidence that GDI had become a platform rather than a one off gathering, with momentum and purpose. It extended the publishing model he established with Springer Nature for the SASBE 2024 proceedings, and it gave GDI 2026 a foundation on which to build.

The publishing strategy

Securing a major publisher is one of the hardest steps for a new conference series. Publishers assess the quality of review, the standing of the organisers and the likely volume and reach of submissions before agreeing to a series. That Springer Nature agreed to five volumes for a first edition reflects confidence built through the SASBE 2024 proceedings and the international network behind GDI.
